Events in the Middle Palaeozoic of the Carnic Alps (italy and Austria)
G5 The Palaeozoic World: Events that Shaped Life 📅 Add to CalendarIn the Carnic Alps, located across the border between Italy and Austria, one of the more complete Palaeozoic sequence of the world is exposed, especially in the Silurian and Devonian terms. The depositional environment varies from the internal platform to pelagic, sometimes with anoxic bottom, in the Silurian, and from shallow sea with large reefs to open sea, but not deep, in the Devonian. The age of the various terms of the sequence is established on a biostratigraphic basis thanks to the abundant conodont faunas. Some events are detected only on biostratigraphic basis in the Silurian and Devonian of the Carnic Alps, but many others are well documented. Among those the Lau Event in mid Ludfordian, the Klonk Event at the Silurian/Devonian Boundary, the Prag Event at the Lochkovian/Pragian boundary, the Kacak Event around the Eifelian/Givetian Boundary, the Kellwasser Event at the Frasian/Famennian boundary, the Annulata Event in the upper Famennian and the Hangenberg Event at the Devonian/Carboniferous boundary.
